Sorry, Gaddafi

Saddam has not been a prisoner of war for over 2 years. He was returned 'home' to the freely elected Iraqi government. And that elected government has tried and convicted him of mass murder.

Iraqi officials said on Friday that Saddam may be hanged within hours, and the prime minister met U.S. officials to determine whether the execution could go ahead
before a week-long religious holiday.
"The countries that captured him should try him -- America or Britain -- because all Iraq is under occupation, including the judges and the lawyers," he told reporters in Tripoli.

Saddam's Last Desparate Chance

Hussein's lawyers filed documents Friday afternoon
asking for a stay of execution. The 21-page request was filed in U.S.
District Court in Washington before Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.

Attorneys argued that because Hussein also faces a civil lawsuit in Washington, he has rights as a civil defendant that would be violated if he is executed. He has not received notice of those rights and the consequences that the lawsuit would have on his estate, his attorneys said.

"To protect those rights, defendant Saddam Hussein requests an order
of this court providing a stay of his execution until further notice of
this court," attorney Nicholas Gilman wrote.

One hopes the judge quotes Michelle Malkin and answers with "Boo Freak'n Who".



I will say it again: It will be a good thing for Iraq when Saddam swings.

UPDATE:

"Petitioner Hussein's application for immediate, temporary stay of execution is denied," U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said after a hearing over the telephone with attorneys.

According to many sources:
Saddam will die before 2006 ends.
Iraqi Prime Minister has signed the death warrant, and under Iraqi law there are no more appeals.

This may cause a brief surge of attacks. But in the long run, Saddam's death will be good for Iraq. It will allow all Iraqis to focus on the future.

UPDATE: Saddam has now died more times in a single day that Castro has in the past year.

over at Blackfive there is a post from a non-commissioned officer (NCO) in Iraq about the Rules Of Engagement (ROE).

This NCO (Sergent or Petty Officer) is not happy with the current ROE his unit operates under. The rules are restrictive, they are in place to prevent casualties to innocent civilians. The rules have been designed to balance the need to destroy those opposed to the freely elected Iraqi government without annoying the civilian population too much.

These restrictive set of rules do increase the risks to our troops.

The so-called civil rights leaders, Jackson and Sharpton, only want to be in the spotlight, They don't try to improve the minority nieghborhoods. They ignore 'black on black' crime, cause they must blame 'whitey'.
This problem starts in the homes, are the children raised to take responsibility for their own actions? No, they are trained to avoid their responsibility. (This also happens in rich, white families.)
Will Jackson and Sharpton ever address this? Will they ever place the responsibility on the minority youth and hold them accountable for their actions? I doubt it.
Jackson and Sharpton will continue to erode the authority/ability of the police to protect the innocent whenever an opportunity arises for Jackson and Sharpton to grab the spotlight.
I guess American police should simply stop enforcing the law in minority areas and allow 'black on black' crime to go unchecked.. No, they can not. American police work hard to protect the innocent in all areas.

Sixth Grader Tasered At Middle School

Channel 2 was told the incident began after something happened at lunch to spark a verbal argument between two 6th graders. The verbal argument turned physical and a school resource officer with the Jonesboro Police Department says she had to resort to using a taser.
What this report leaves out is: this 6th grade boy weighs 200 lbs. So, this female resource officer (campus cop) had to taser this 200 lb boy to stop him from assaulting a 6th grade girl.
But the same parents who are now complaining about this officer using a taser on this very big kid, a taser which was used as a last resort to protect another student from assault.These will be the same parents who will complain about the lack of learning at the school.

Why have you been silent on the use of the "N-word" by black artists for the last 40 years?

Why do you only complain about its use when a white person uses the term?

Why did you attack Bill Cosby for complaining about the language used by blacks?

When will you lead a boycott of black artist who use the "n-word"?

Rev. Jackson, you and Rev. Sharpton are the two worst racists in this nation. You have campaigned to keep the blacks oppressed.

You demand that all blacks conform to your way of thinking.

You encourage racists assaults on conservative blacks like Michael Steele.

You always demand standards to be lowered to allow more blacks to meet the standard instead of demanding the blacks work harder to meet the higher standard.

The finest fighter squadron in WWII was the all black squadron. They were the best pilots because they were determined to exceed any and all standards imposed by the Army Air Corp, not because they wanted the standards lowered.

They held themselves to a higher standard.

Congressman Rangel Said that the only reason the young men and women volunteer to serve in the US Military was because they can not get another job.

WRONG.

They volunteer because they want to serve.

Those who do volunteer because they can not get another job...either do not qualify for enlistment or they do not make it thru boot camp.



When I served in the fleet in the '80's, yes, there were a few sailors who were not motivated and were consistent problem children, and the ships I served on, were not choice duty, so we have more than are fair share of these problem children,



BUT the vast majority of the sailors were highly motivated individuals who worked hard to improve themselves.

I wish I had more of these motivated individuals in the civilian workforce.

We need to contact our Congresscritters - all 3 of them (YOUR Congressman, and YOUR 2 Senators) Tell them what you want. Keep telling them. Make sure your friends and neighbors are also telling them what to do.

During this upcoming 'lame duck' session - it is vital to press for what we want.

Then in January, the real work begins.

Make the Bush Tax Cuts Permanent - I don't want to see a 30% increase in my taxes, I bet your liberal neighbors don't really want to pay higher taxes.

Don't Increase the Minimum Wage - This will REDUCE the number of jobs, causing lower employment, INCREASING entitlement payouts, DECREASING profits, FORECLOSING Small Businesses, LOWERING Tax Revenues.......
A Recession or even a Depression, which the Democrats will try to blame on Bush.

Stay in Iraq, for as long as it takes - A major change in the number of US Troops - up or down - would be a mistake. The trouble in Iraq is concentrated in Baghdad. The SOLUTION in IRAQ will be created by the Iraqis, we must help them arrive at a solution. We must nudge them along in finding the solution, but it must be their solution.

Secure the Southern Border - This is the first step in dealing with illegal immigration. Deportation is a joke if our border is not secure. All other nations build walls/fences/barriers to secure their borders as required.

3) I recall from history, LBJ did not like the way things were going in Vietnam, so he tripled the number of troops on the ground to 500,000. And the MSM still defeated the USA in Vietnam.
4) We lost about a dozen soldiers a day in Vietnam. We are losing just over 2 soldiers a day on average in Iraq.
5) the trouble spots in Iraq - are mainly in a few towns. Most of Iraq is doing okay.

6) Staying the course - seems to be a good thing,

I Support Pope Benedict XVI

Violence and religion do not go together.

We write with serious concerns about the planned upcoming broadcast of The Path to 9/11 mini-series on September 10 and 11. Countless reports from experts on 9/11 who have viewed the program indicate numerous and serious inaccuracies that will undoubtedly serve to misinform the American people about the tragic events surrounding the terrible attacks of that day. Furthermore, the manner in which this program has been developed, funded, and advertised suggests a partisan bent unbecoming of a major company like Disney and a major and well respected news organization like ABC. We therefore urge you to cancel this broadcast to cease Disney's plans to use it as a teaching tool in schools across America through Scholastic. Presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law, to your shareholders, and to the nation.
The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events.
Disney and ABC claim this program to be based on the 9/11 Commission Report and are using that assertion as part of the promotional campaign for it. The 9/11 Commission is the most respected American authority on the 9/11 attacks, and association with it carries a special responsibility. Indeed, the very events themselves on 9/11, so tragic as they were, demand extreme care by any who attempt to use those events as part of an entertainment or educational program. To quote Steve McPhereson, president of ABC Entertainment, "When you take on the responsibility of telling the story behind such an important event, it is absolutely critical that you get it right."
Unfortunately, it appears Disney and ABC got it totally wrong.
Despite claims by your network's representatives that The Path to 9/11 is based on the report of the 9/11 Commission, 9/11 Commissioners themselves, as well as other experts on the issues, disagree.
Richard Ben-Veniste, speaking for himself and fellow 9/11 Commissioners who recently viewed the program, said, "As we were watching, we were trying to think how they could have misinterpreted the 9/11 Commission's findings the way that they had." Richard Clarke, the former counter-terrorism czar, and a national security advisor to ABC has described the program as "deeply flawed" and said of the program's depiction of a Clinton official hanging up on an intelligence agent, "It's 180 degrees from what happened." Reports suggest that an FBI agent who worked on 9/11 and served as a consultant to ABC on this program quit halfway through because, "he thought they were making things up." [MSNBC, September 7, 2006]

That Disney would seek to broadcast an admittedly and proven false recounting of the events of 9/11 raises serious questions about the motivations of its creators and those who approved the deeply flawed program. Finally, that Disney plans to air commercial-free a program that reportedly cost it $40 million to produce serves to add fuel to these concerns.
These concerns are made all the more pressing by the political leaning of and the public statements made by the writer/producer of this miniseries, Mr. Cyrus Nowrasteh, in promoting this miniseries across conservative blogs and talk shows.
Frankly, that ABC and Disney would consider airing a program that could be construed as right-wing political propaganda on such a grave and important event involving the security of our nation is a discredit both to the Disney brand and to the legacy of honesty built at ABC by honorable individuals from David Brinkley to Peter Jennings. Furthermore, that Disney would seek to use Scholastic to promote this misguided programming to American children as a substitute for factual information is a disgrace.
As 9/11 Commission member Jamie Gorelick said, "It is critically important to the safety of our nation that our citizens, and particularly our school children, understand what actually happened and why - so that we can proceed from a common understanding of what went wrong and act with unity to make our country safer."
Should Disney allow this programming to proceed as planned, the factual record, millions of viewers, countless schoolchildren, and the reputation of Disney as a corporation worthy of the trust of the American people and the United States Congress will be deeply damaged. We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program. We look forward to hearing back from you soon.
