good

The Surge is working. The initial success on the field
by the American army is splitting the Democratic caucus in the House
between those who want to Lose At Any Cost and the Weathervanes Who
Follow The Polls.

Those polls are bad. Only 3% of Americans approve of the Democratic Congress’s handling of the war. Bush is at 24% in this category. Overall, Bush has better poll numbers than the Democratic Congress.

Rank-and-file Democrats already are worrying about the fate of all incumbents in 2008. They see the shift in public support. 42% now think the war was a good idea, up from 35% in May. These Democrats are tacking back.

Georgia Voter ID Law

Georgia voters will be required to show a photo ID at the polls for a
special election in September, following several years of court and
legislative battles, the secretary of state said Tuesday.

A lawsuit contended the 2006 law was an undue burden on voters, and a
Fulton County judge agreed, ruling the law unconstitutional. The
Georgia Supreme Court threw out the case, though, finding the plaintiff
lacked legal standing to challenge the law. On Friday, the high court
denied a motion to reconsider.
Secretary of State Karen Handel said Tuesday that the refusal to
reconsider cleared the way for Georgia to implement the law for its
Sept. 18 special election. But first, she said, the state will launch
an education effort to let voters know about the new requirement.

This is EXCELLENT news.
Any action which helps reduce vote is good.

The same organizations who bus folks to the polls;
can get the list of the required documents and bus those folks to the DMV to get their free state ID card -- so those honest folks can still vote.

But let us be realistic -- those organizations which continue to bitch and moan about this requirement.

Good Iraq News = Bad News for Democrats

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly
positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely
would split Democrats in the House and impede his party's efforts to
press for a timetable to end the war.
Clyburn, in an interview with the washingtonpost.com video program
PostTalk, said Democrats might be wise to wait for the Petraeus report,
scheduled to be delivered in September, before charting next steps in
their year-long struggle with President Bush over the direction of U.S.
strategy.
Clyburn noted that Petraeus carries significant weight among the 47
members of the Blue Dog caucus in the House, a group of moderate to
conservative Democrats. Without their support, he said, Democratic
leaders would find it virtually impossible to pass legislation setting
a timetable for withdrawal.
...
Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S.
ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the
success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence
in Baghdad. But of late there
have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing
something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be "a real
big problem for us."

Winning in Iraq: according to the New York Times

Writtten by Michael E. O’Hanlon; who is a senior fellow at
the Brookings Institution. Kenneth M. Pollack is the director of
research at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings.

VIEWED from Iraq, where we just spent
eight days meeting with American and Iraqi military and civilian
personnel, the political debate in Washington is surreal. The Bush
administration has over four years lost essentially all credibility.
Yet now the administration’s critics, in part as a result, seem unaware
of the significant changes taking place.

Here is the most
important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting
somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have
harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of
Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to
produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable stability that both
we and the Iraqis could live with.

After the furnace-like heat,
the first thing you notice when you land in Baghdad is the morale of
our troops. In previous trips to Iraq we often found American troops
angry and frustrated — many sensed they had the wrong strategy, were
using the wrong tactics and were risking their lives in pursuit of an
approach that could not work.

Today, morale is high. The
soldiers and marines told us they feel that they now have a superb
commander in Gen. David Petraeus; they are confident in his strategy,
they see real results, and they feel now they have the numbers needed
to make a real difference.

Everywhere, Army and Marine units
were focused on securing the Iraqi population, working with Iraqi
security units, creating new political and economic arrangements at the
local level and providing basic services — electricity, fuel, clean
water and sanitation — to the people. Yet in each place, operations had
been appropriately tailored to the specific needs of the community. As
a result, civilian fatality rates are down roughly a third since the
surge began — though they remain very high, underscoring how much more
still needs to be done.

In Ramadi, for example, we talked with
an outstanding Marine captain whose company was living in harmony in a
complex with a (largely Sunni) Iraqi police company and a (largely
Shiite) Iraqi Army unit. He and his men had built an Arab-style living
room, where he met with the local Sunni sheiks — all formerly allies of
Al Qaeda and other jihadist groups — who were now competing to secure
his friendship.

Message to Illinois

Kennesaw, Georgia has REQUIRED homeowners to own a firearm since the mid-1980's.

Crime in Kennesaw dropped dramatically after that law went into effect.

There have been zero (0) gun deaths in Kennesaw, since that law went into effect.

Wake up people, outlawing guns = only outlaws with guns = more crime, not less.

DC Gun Law

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty  said: "We have made the determination that this law can and
should be defended and we are willing to take our case to the highest
court in the land to protect the city's residents. Our handgun law has
saved countless lives -- keeping guns out of the hands of those who
would hurt others or themselves."

WRONG.
The ban on firearms in Washington DC,
made the city the MURDER CAPITAL of the world.
I am safer on the streets of Baghdad than on the streets of Washington DC.

I am praying that the Supreme Court will agree with the DC Circuit Court on this issue.
The D.C. Circuit Court ruled on March 9 that the Second Amendment does
guarantee an individual right to possess a gun -- at least within one's
own home. The ruling was the first by a federal appeals court to strike
down a gun control law based on that view of the Amendment's reach. The
case is Parker, et al., v. District of Columbia (Circuit docket
04-7041). On May 8, the Circuit Court refused by a 6-4 vote to rehear
the case en banc.

Hitler's Lesson; Learned by Islamics

Islamic fanatics have learned from Hitler. They use terror, assassination to push their murderous rule.
Islamic fanatics do not yet have a state, but they are working hard to capture one (Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Gaza, Phillipines).
Islamic fanatics inspired by Osama Bin Laden are working to take control of the entire world. They want to impose 'Taliban' rule on the world.
We, the free people, must defeat them, now.
We, the free people, must fight them - anyplace, anytime they show their ugly face.
We, the free people, must utterly defeat the Islamic Fanatics.

We must not retreat, redeploy, pull back from this fight. We must continue to apply unrelenting pressure on the Islamic Fanatics.

Should We stay or Should We Go?

From Desert Flier:

I finish with a question: we have maintained a presence in Europe for over 50 years. Does the U.S. have a permanent place in Iraq, too?
And a prediction:
We stay permanently, and Iraq becomes my generation's Post-World War Two Europe. We maintain a presence and work hand in hand with the Iraqi government. We patiently wait until they are organized and stable enough to take the lead, and we give them full autonomy while maintaining open-ended leases on a few key military bases.

I agree, that we (the United States Congress) must stop talking about leaving Iraq. The talk of troop withdrawal only encourages the ISLAMIC TERRORISTS, it PROVIDES COMFORT AND SUPPORT to their cause - A WORLDWIDE ISLAMIC STATE.

If Congress would start discussing increases in our level and use of force against ISLAMIC TERRORISTS,
If Congress would remove the handcuffs on the military leadership - ie time between deployments.
If we loosen the Rules of Engagement (ROE) and support the troops when they aggressively engage the TERRORISTS.
Then the ISLAMIC TERRORISTS would be more fearful of us.

Events are going our way:
Pakistan is not going to host Bin Laden much longer.
Iran is unstable, and democracy could win out.

But we must REMAIN STRONG and be willing to stay as long as it takes.

What happenned?

What happened to the words, 'we shall pay any price, bear any burden,
meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the
survival of liberty"?

Those words were spoken by John F Kennedy.

ISLAM demands SUBMISSION.
SUBMISSION is the OPPOSITE of LIBERTY.

The survival of LIBERTY is at STAKE in Iraq. We must STAND and FIGHT in IRAQ, no matter how long it takes to defeat the ISLAMIC TERRORISTS who KILL INNOCENT MEN, WOMEN and CHILDREN DAILY in Iraq.

Yes, ISLAMIC TERRORISTS KILL CHILDREN.
ISLAMIC TERRORISTS worship BLOOD, they are servants of Satan.
And the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA must defeat them.

What happened to the words, 'we shall pay any price, bear any burden,
meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the
survival of liberty"?

Those words were spoken by John F Kennedy.

The DEMOCRATS are so FOCUSED on defeating  GEORGE W BUSH.
The DEMOCRATS DO NOT CARE HOW MANY PEOPLE MUST DIE to make BUSH look bad. DEMOCRATS DO NOT CARE.

DEMOCRATS have become USEFUL IDIOTS helping to PROMOTE ISLAMIC TERROR throughout the WORLD.
DEMOCRATS are supporting the ISLAMIC way of TORTURING and ABUSING WOMEN.

An interesting date - 7/7/07, will it be 'lucky'. Was 6/6/06 unlucky?

My personal favorites were 11/19/1999 - the last date for over a thousand years with all odd numbers. Next all odd date will be 1/1/3111.
or 02/02/2000, the first date since 12/28/888 - with all even numbers.

Of course 9/9/99 - overloaded the lotteries.

Libby: No Jail Time - Thanks to President

The grand miscarriage of justice has been partially stopped.
Scooter Libby will not go to jail over the inconsistencies in the 5 times he testified before the grand jury. A grand jury which did not do what it was convened to do, identify the person (Richard Armitage) who leaked that Mrs Plame worked for the CIA. The runaway US Attorney Fitzpatrick figured out quickly that leaked that she worked at CIA was not a crime, but since he was determined to convicted somebody of something, he attacked Scooter Libby.

Mr Libby was sentenced to 30 months in jail, fined $250,000 and placed on probation. The President commuted the jail time.

Over-reactions to this action by President Bush:

Barack Obama:

"This decision to commute the sentence of a man who compromised our national security cements the legacy of an Administration characterized by a politics of cynicism and division, one that has consistently placed itself and its ideology above the law.

NOTE: Scooter Libby did not compromise our security - Sandy "Pants" Berger did, and Berger committed a felony to protect the Clintons from their crimes and failures.

Events

In South America, football fans shout "Freedom" to protest Chavez.

In London, two car bombs discovered and luckily nobody was injured or killed. Good sense by a passing EMT to call the police, quick thinking by the first cop to remove the cell phone from the car.

In Spain, an airport closed due to a bomb being found, again lucky nobody was hurt.

In Scotland, a car was rammed into the terminal, seems this was yet another car bomb.

Also in Scotland, another airport closed by security.

We need to show more sympathy for these good folks.

They travel miles in the heat.
They risk their lives crossing a border.
They don't get paid enough wages.
They do jobs that others won't do, or are afraid to do.

They live in crowed conditions among a people who speak a different language.

They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day every day.

Doesn't it seem strange that the Democrats are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops and are continuously threatening to de-fund them?

many thanks to Cookie for sharing this.

Who's to Blame

Who is to blame, for terror attacks?

The Victim, ie The United Kingdom, or The United States.

or

The Terrorist, ie Islamic militants.

The Terrorists and their supporters, both the active supporters and the useful idiots who help protect the terrorists, they are to blame for terror attacks.
The mass murders are to blame for the bloodshed.

A mature, intelligent person can find or create ways to peacefully protest government policies.

But maturity does exist amongst the Islamists.

The order that needs to be given.

You will bring about the destruction of the ISLAMIST war machine, the elimination of ISLAMIC tyranny over the oppressed peoples and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

We will accept nothing less than full victory.

Good luck, and let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

I'm with Fred

Fred Thompson's offical site is up.

I’m one of tens of thousands of Americans encouraging former Sen. Fred Thompson to run for President. I’d like you to join with me and Fred and all our friends in changing the political landscape in 2008. Senator Thompson recently announced that he was taking some preliminary steps toward entering the Presidential race, and to show my support I signed on as a "Friend of Fred Thompson." I’m writing to ask you to consider doing the same.

Senator Thompson has been a prosecutor, a Senator, and yes, he’s had a couple of movie roles. More importantly, he’s exactly what we need right now – a consistent conservative who can unite our nation and help lead us in fixing our problems, not exploiting them for political purposes.

He’s plain-spoken and means what he says. On the immigration bill, for example, Fred calls it like he sees it:

"No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it’s not going to win any beauty contests. … We should scrap this "comprehensive" immigration bill until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders -- or at least made great headway."

On folks in Washington who want to raise our taxes:

"They only want to target the rich. They’re off target again, just like they were with the alternative minimum tax. Remember, that was supposed to just target the rich. A word of advice to anyone in the middle class – don’t stand anywhere near that target."

On leadership:

"We're going to have to be more focused, we're going to have be smarter and we're going to have to be more determined and we're going to have to be more together as a nation than we've ever been before."

Fred has said he wants to do things differently. He wants to focus on returning to our founding principles of self-governance, free markets and the rule of law. Those are ideas we’re all invested in – focused on building a stronger, more competitive and innovative America that remains a beacon for the world today … and for the next generation.

I’ve done my part to encourage Fred to run, and I want you to join me.
Visit www.ImWithFred.com to sign up. If we can get enough people to sign on with us and support us, we can change America … together.

Shamelessly borrowed from Publius Pundit

Venezuelan college kids, known as 'chamos', march in Sunday's rally
in Caracas, forming the word 'libertad' or in English, 'freedom' with
their bodies, as their rallying cry from the dictatorship of Hugo
Chavez. It's the beginning of the end for that tyrannical sack of trash.

Venezuela's freedom protests are no longer about anything political - they are about freedom.

The white hand with a sort of peace sign is a symbol of resistance to tyranny among the Venezuelan college kids,

Venezuelans rally Sunday at the headquarters of CNN in Atlanta. Like RCTV, CNN has been threatened by the dictator. The kids want CNN to stay strong and not cave in. CNN would be wise to heed them. (CNN is the friend of dictators worldwide, CNN hid the crimes of Saddam to keep 'access', CNN knowingly supported the torture of thousands to keep 'access'. CNN will support Chavez.)

the chamos want freedom for all. (and so do I.)

Venezuelan chamos protested in San Francisco on Sunday, the most famously progressive city in the U.S., calling for freedom there, too. Where are the hippies who claim to stand for as much?

Putting tape over their mouths to protest the gagging of the free
press, Venezuelans protest at the Venezuelan embassy in Mexico City, a
city where many have been drive to exile from Chavez's tyranny and
economic ruin.

Living in Terror

By Fred Thompson

May 30, 2007

Let me ask you a hypothetical question. What do you think America would do

if Canadian soldiers were firing dozens of missiles every day into Buffalo,

N.Y.? What do you think our response would be if Mexican troops for two

years had launched daily rocket attacks on San Diego -- and bragged about

it?

I can tell you, our response would look nothing like Israel's restrained

and pinpoint reactions to daily missile attacks from Gaza. We would use

whatever means necessary to win the war. There would likely be numerous

casualties on our enemy's side, but we would rightfully hold those who

attacked us responsible.

More than 1,300 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza since

Palestinians were given control two years ago. Israelis, however, have gone

to incredible lengths to stop the war against them without harming

Palestinian non-combatants. But make no mistake, Israel is at war. The

elected Hamas government regularly repeats its official promise to destroy

Israel entirely and replace it with an Islamic state. Hamas openly took

Credit for killing one woman and wounding dozens more last week alone.

The Palestinian strategy is to purposely target and kill Israeli civilians.

Then, when Israel goes after those launching the attacks, Palestinians

claim to be the victims. If Palestinian civilians aren't hurt in the

Israeli attacks, they stage injuries and deaths. Too often, they garner

sympathy and support from a gullible or anti-Semitic media in the

international community.

Israelis, themselves, are often incapable of facing the damage they inflict

in self-defense. Knowing this, Islamic extremists are using their own

populations as human shields.

I'm beginning to wonder how much longer this vicious plot will work though.

International sympathy for Palestinians has diminished as the same

Islamofascist extremists have brought havoc to Madrid, Bali, Somalia,

London and elsewhere. More importantly, Israelis themselves are suffering

so badly, they may be on the verge of losing their sympathy for the people

who have sworn to kill them.

Imagine what it would be like to live, knowing that a rocket could fall on

you or your children at any minute. Half of those who live nearest to Gaza

have fled their homes. Those remaining are traumatized by daily warning

sirens and explosions.

The irony is that Israel has the military might to easily win the war that

is being waged against them today. They haven't used that might, in the

past, out of compassion for Palestinian civilians and because it could

trigger a wider regional conflict.

That balance of power is about to change, though. If Iran develops nuclear

weapons, the very existence of this tiny nation of Israel will be

threatened. The Iranian regime has left little doubt that it intends to see

Israel "wiped off the map. Hamas is using the same language, not

coincidentally, and has announced it will begin launching missiles into

Israel from the West Bank too.

If the world doesn't act to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, it must be

prepared for the consequences of Israel defending itself.

Swiss campaign against minarets

“We don’t have anything against Muslims,” said Oskar
Freysinger, member of parliament for the Swiss People’s Party. “But we
don’t want minarets. The minaret is a symbol of a political and
aggressive Islam, it’s a symbol of Islamic law. The minute you have
minarets in Europe it means Islam will have taken over.”

Mr Freysinger’s words may sound extreme, even paranoid, but this is
a general election year in Switzerland, and the campaign against
minarets is playing well with voters. A recent opinion poll for one
Swiss newspaper found that 43% of those surveyed were in favour of a
ban on minarets.

“We have our civil laws here,” insisted Mr Freysinger. “Banning
minarets would send a clear signal that our European laws, our Swiss
laws, have to be accepted. And if you want to live here, you must
accept them. If you don’t, then go back.”

Professor of Islamic studies Reinhard Schulze warns that any hint
that Muslims are not peaceful might result in violence. Better to let
them have the minarets, so they don’t hurt us.

It’s a harsh message for Swiss Muslims, many of whom
were born in Switzerland. There are fears that the campaign against
minarets will provoke growing resentment against Swiss society.

“I think Swiss Muslims will be angry and bitter over this,” said
Reinhard Schulze, professor of Islamic Studies at Berne University.
“And we know that anger and bitterness among a community can lead to
radicalisation, even to militancy.”

Poem for today

It is the soldier, not the poet, who gives us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who gives us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us freedom to protest.

It is the soldier who serves beneath the flag,

who salutes the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag,

who gives the demonstrator the right to burn the flag.

For those who gave all

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

"Hello media, do you know you indirectly kill American soldiers every day? You inspire and report the enemy's objective every day. You are the enemy's greatest weapon. The enemy cannot beat us on the battlefield so all he does is try to wreak enough havoc and have you report it every day. With you and the enemy using each other, you continually break the will of the American public and American
government.

"We go out daily and bust and kill the enemy, uncover and destroy huge weapons caches and continue to establish infrastructure. So daily we put a whoopin on the enemy, but all the enemy has to do is turn on the TV and get re-inspired. He gets to see his daily roadside bomb, truck bomb, suicide bomber or mortar attack. He doesn't see any accomplishments of the U.S. military (FOX, you're not exempt, you suck also).

"We, the soldiers, keep breaking the back of the enemy.

You, the media, keep rejuvenating the enemy."

Glad I Live in the States

The EU is considering sanctions against
several member states because of their supposed "homophobia" which is
defined as the failure to promote homosexuality in schools. More on the
EU's attempts to bludgeon member states into compliance on the "party

So European schools must PROMOTE homosexuality, not just teach TOLERANCE, but must activity promote homosexuality......I guess the Europeans really want to slide into the dustbin of history.

Idiot Candidate: Ron Paul

Ron Paul thought that a Republican crowd would buy that the United States is to blame for 9/11....idiot.

Jimmy Carter, failed to respond to the taking of 44 hostages, and sat dumbstruck for 444 days...

Ronald Reagan got those hostages freed, by threatening Iran before he took office. Correction: It was not a threat, it was a promise to level Iran if the hostages were not freed.

Ronald Reagan, failed by protecting Yassar Arafat, and by a weak response to the bombing of the Marines.

Bill Clinton, responded weakly to all threats.

But those failures do not make the US responsible for 9/11.

The Islamic Fascists under Osama are responsible. George W Bush acted properly in Afganistan and Iraq.

Ron Paul is stupid to say otherwise, especially in front of Republicans.

Five Iraqi Hostages Freed

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Five Iraqis who were held captive and tortured by
terrorists were freed Monday morning during a Coalition Forces raid on
the site where they were imprisoned.

Coalition Forces targeted the building northeast of Karmah during
continued operations to disrupt the al-Qaeda network operating in the
area. After a thorough search of the building, ground forces found a
padlocked room. Inside were four men and a boy who had been kidnapped
and severely beaten with chains, cables and hoses. The four captives
also showed signs of torture, and the boy stated the terrorists had
hooked electrical wires to his tongue and shocked him.

Coalition Forces evacuated the five individuals and provided
treatment for their injuries. The hostages indicated their captors were
foreign fighters who spoke with different accents. The hostages, who
are from different tribes, will be turned over to their respective
tribal leaders for repatriation.

“The brutality and viciousness of these acts demonstrate the
complete disregard terrorists have for human life,” said Lt. Col.
Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “We will continue to hunt
foreign fighters who bring this violence into Iraq.”

USS Stark

Twenty Years ago today. (from the book "No Higher Honor" By Bradley Peniston)

Just before sundown on 17 May, an Iraqi pilot in an F-1 Mirage jet headed down the Gulf, scanning his instruments for oil tankers.

The first missile punched through the hull near the
port bridge wing, eight feet above the waterline. It bored a flaming
hole through berthing spaces, the post office, and the ship’s store,
spewing rocket propellant along its path. Burning at 3,500 degrees, the
weapon ground to a halt in a corner of the chiefs’ quarters, and failed
to explode. The second missile, which hit five feet farther forward,
detonated as designed. The fired burned for almost a day, incinerating
the crew’s quarters, the radar room, and the combat information center.

About one-quarter of the crew was incapacitated in the attack. Twenty-nine were killed immediately; eight more died later.

I was onboard the USS Haleakala AE-25 in the Western Pacific when this attack occurred. We immediately, without waiting for orders, starting planning our voyage to the Persian Gulf. We figured that the munitions in our holds would be needed.

Two days later, we were told that we would not be going.

Here’s to absent friends, and keeping your powder dry.

Eternal Father, strong to save,

Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,

Who bidd’st the mighty ocean deep,

Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,

For those in peril on the sea!

Thanks Lex for reminding me of this.

Attempted Rules Change in the House

Speaker Pelosi is attempting to silence the Republicans in the House. She desires absolute control of the House. She doesn't want the minority party to have a say.

The Motion to Recommit rule has been on the books and unchanged since 1822.   The Rules Committee website says
“The motion to recommit is the prerogative of the Minority party.”
Thomas Jefferson prepared a rules manual for his own use as President
of the Senate, and the House still uses it for guidance.   At the
beginning of Jefferson's Manual he quotes the Speaker of the House of
Commons from 1728 to 1761:

"It
was a maxim he had often heard when he was a young man, from old and
experienced Members, that nothing tended more to throw power into the
hands of administration, and those who acted with the majority of the
House of Commons, than a neglect of, or departure from, the rules of
proceeding; that these forms, as instituted by our ancestors, operated
as a check and control on the actions of the majority, and that they
were, in many instances, a shelter and protection to the minority,
against the attempts of power."

The
rules of the House are there to protect the Minority from the tyranny
of the Majority.  But Nancy Pelosi is in charge now, and the Rules are
being eliminated.  You do the math.

Comrade Speaker Pelosi wants no opposition to her will. None.

Fox News: Intelligence suggests missing soldiers are alive

from Hot Air

U.S. aircraft dropped leaflets Wednesday in a thinly populated farming area south of Baghdad, offering a $200,000 reward for any information on three missing American soldiers believed captured by Al Qaeda terrorists.

The new search tactic came as a senior U.S. military official in Baghdad told FOX News there was reason to believe the missing GIs were still alive. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, would only say the assessment was based on intelligence.

Damn, it's hard to type with crossed fingers.

I'm still praying for them.

Iraqslogger had reported this a few days ago:

The “source” told the newspaper that the attack took place in Shwaisha, 30 kilometers west of Mahmudiya. The US troops were riding two Humvee vehicles, stationed on a bridge over the Euphrates River, the source – who spoke under the condition of anonymity – said.

The attack occurred while the US patrol was “exchanging its position with a replacement patrol,” the source claimed. An armed group, which al-Hayat did not identify, attacked the US troops with mortar shells, causing the death of 5 soldiers, while the remaining three “fled to an unknown location.”

The source added that it is still unknown whether the missing soldiers were captured by the same group that attacked their patrol…

What is notable in the al-Hayat report is that the security source affirmed that the three soldiers were “missing and not captured;” adding that “al-Qa’ida is “claiming a victory for itself that it did not achieve.”

Wisedom from a Democrat

Yes, wise words from a Democrat. It is hard to believe but some Democrats do understand the real world.

From Ed Koch (D).

Because the Democrats are forcing an end to the struggle in Iraq, we must now prepare to fight terrorism in our homeland for the next thirty or more years. This is a war of civilizations. The Islamic terrorists worldwide want to destroy the U.S. and every other Western nation, along with moderate Muslim nations, e.g., Egypt, Jordan, etc. Our very survival as a nation is involved. Will we have the courage and will to do all that will be necessary to prevail?

During the Cold War the pols in Washington were mostly united in support of this goal. But now the Democrats are not. There is no safety for the weak and foolish. When you seek to end a war without substantially achieving your essential goals by simply ceasing to fight, it is often a form of surrender. And that’s the way the Democrat-imposed outcome in Iraq will be understood around the world, especially by our enemies.

Yep, the former Mayor of New York, Ed Koch, understands.

Democrats Blinked

From Congressman Cantor

House Republicans are shutting down the floor, because the Democrats are threatening to change a rule and deny Republicans any opportunity to offer a motion to recommit on the "paygo" provisions of their legislation.
That’s a lot of wonky talk; bottom line - the Democrats are preventing their Members from having to vote on the tax increases that they are trying to impose on the American People.

It is simply stunning that House Democrats want to change the germanenss rule on motions to recommit; this would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.

Check back for updates. We will be updating on this showdown as it unfolds.

UPDATE: Rep. Westmoreland just moved for a recorded quorum call, then a motion that the committee will rise. Expect to see more of these…

House Democrats Just Blinked

House Democrats wanted to change the rules to make it easier to raise taxes. They wanted to hide their Members from a direct vote on the tough issues. They wanted to change rules on minority floor rights that have been in place since 1822.

They failed.

Today, House Republicans stood united and successfully fought against the House Democrats’ ill-advised rule changes, by reducing all business on the House Floor to a crawl. We used a creative set of motions and other parliamentary techniques to bring the fight.

In the end, House Democrats lost and the American People won.

al-Qaeda Captors Cornered Near Baghdad, No Word On Soldiers [Steve Schippert]

The al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists who captured three US Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division are reportedly cornered in a rural area near Baghdad. From the story developing:

"Right now our focus is on searching for the missing soldiers, and we're trying to isolate the areas where we think they could be," said Army Maj. Kenny Mintz, the brigade operations officer for the 2nd BCT, 10th Mountain Division in a Multinational Corps Iraq news release.

"The (captors) don't have freedom of movement; if they have the soldiers, they can't move them from where they are. We're doing a deliberate search of the areas for the people responsible for the soldiers we're looking for," he said.

Religious Difference

From Iraq War Today

At any rate, I don't buy it. A Muslim friend of a friend said once that although he's lived in America all of his life, although he loves this country, if a fatwah came down to kill Americans, he'd be obligated to do it.

Let's think about that for a second. If the Pope said, "OK, folks, time to kill all the Jews - it's the religious obligation of all Catholics to do so," the collective Catholic following would say, "Time for a new Pope," not "Where do we start?!"

Go read the entire rant.

More Politics, Less Help for the People

Good Lord are those Democrats touchy!

Yesterday afternoon, I posted about
allegations that Howard Dean had manipulated KS Governor Sebelius into criticizing the White House about federal response to the Greensburg tornado, as did others (a Technorati search should enlighten you as to how viral the story has become in the blogosphere).

The offended souls at the DNC have whittled down the reaction time to a very impressive overnight. Their lawyers sent a letter to both XM Satellite Radio (the ones who originally got the purported information) and to our buddies over at Free Republic.
Both letters are not only denials of the facts as I mentioned them yesterday, but they also contain injuctions to cease and desist any further dissemination of allegations relating to this matter.

Did I just witness the 1st Amendment take a pick axe to the head?

Conventional Stupidity

So much for anti-Americanism, says the Examiner:

Amazing, isn’t it, how the conventional wisdom that holds sway among many sophisticated — i.e. liberal — Washingtonians and New Yorkers is often so completely divorced from reality. These folks have come to take it as a given that America’s involvement in Iraq has inflicted severe damage to our nation’s image abroad, especially in Europe. But the most recent national election results from France and Germany demonstrate that this “truth” about George W. The War in Iraq is a necessary and just effort to bring freedom to the Middle East and protect America from further attack. It was signed by 2,700 active duty service men and women, and the only place you'll read about it is on blogs like this one. Not your local newspaper, not CNN, certainly not NBC or CBS - not even Fox, so often accused of leaning right. But you'll certainly hear about three disgruntled generals and their hissy fits over strategy and tactics.

That's news, at least as profoundly biased mainstream media types define it. It should shame

Politics First, Helping People Second

Kansas Governor Sebelius was instructed by Howard dean to NOT ask for Federal Aid, then to claim help was slow in coming.

XM Radio’s Quinn & Rose made the allegation that DNC Chairman Howard Dean called Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius early Sunday morning and instructed her not to request federal assistance in recovery from the Greensburg tornado, and to lie about the federal response to date, on their show, The War Room, today. After I discussed the story via phone with both Quinn and Rose today, here’s what they sent me.

Democrats: Politics First, Help People Second

Senator Sam Brownback told Governor Sebelius that he was very disappointed in her, She pleaded “You know me Sam, I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t have to.” She declared “Howard (Dean) called me around 5 o’clock (in the morning) and told me not to ask The White House for any help or make any statements until I heard
back. Dick (Durban?) called me an hour or 2 later and that’s when he told me we needed to use this ‘n’ said to talk about the Guard all bein’ at war.”

She then explained the thinking; “Speaker and Harry got so much heat on them from both sides over this damn war, ‘n’ they need to get the press on somethin’ else. I didn’t think it was right to use it like this either, but I didn’t see’s I had much choice in this climate, Sam.”

Democrats: Politics First, Help People Second

Of course, only 10% of the state National Guard members were called in to help before the governor held the press conference on "shortages".

Democrats: Politics First, Help People Second

Tully, who lives in the area, reported this from Greensburg:

Wichita and Sedgwick County crews were already on standby because of the storms
sweeping the state, and were in Greensburg within two hours. It's a hundred miles away. Do the math.

Acquaintances on one of those first teams told me that when they got there, the highway in had already been cleared and locals with chainsaws and pick-ups were well into clearing the streets so that rescue vehicles could go anywhere. By dawn heavy equipment from the region was already pouring in, and they had to start cordoning off the town because there were too many volunteers there with equipment. By Sunday when Sebelius made her insulting remarks, there were traffic jams on the highway from utility crews piled up, coming in to "safe" the gas and electric.

Democrat 10% Aid Response

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) tries to blame Washington for her decision to only send 10% of the available National Guard resources to help the victims in Greensburg, KS.

10% of the available National Guard in Kansas was all that this Democrat sent to help her people. (600 of some 6000).

Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback disputed claims by Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that a deadly Kansas tornado exposed holes in National Guard readiness caused by the Iraq war.

Sebelius said Monday that Kansas is missing about half its National Guard trucks and many well-trained personnel that could have helped respond to last weekend's tornado in Greensburg, Kan. The twister killed at least 10 people and razed the farming town.

"The issue for the National Guard is the same wherever you go in the country. Stuff that we would have borrowed is gone. It's gone across the country," she said Monday.

Brownback said Tuesday that local officials and the Kansas National Guard commander all told him they have the resources needed to respond.

"That's what really got me, is her saying that," Brownback said in an interview.

"So I asked, privately and publicly, the adjutant general, do you have the equipment you need?" he said. "Because if you don't, we're going to hit Fort Riley and McConnell (Air Force Base) and other places to make sure we have all the equipment we need to respond to disasters. Everybody there said no, we have the equipment we needed."

Was Bin Laden Right?

go to My Pet Jawa and learn!

Learning from History

In 480 BCE a small group of warriors stood against millions. They knew
they faced almost certain death. They knew that they probably would not
receive reinforcements. And yet they held their ground, they refused to
retreat and their actions did nothing less than save Western
civilization. This is the story of 300 Spartans who held off the two million man army of Xerxes of Persia.

It is also the story of the Alamo, where a few hundred men delayed the advancing thousands of the Mexican army, where the volunteers from Tennessee stood tall.

It is also the story of Bataan and Corigidor (sp?), where the US 1st Army stood and fought, for months, until they were exhausted.

Three examples of smaller forces, standing tall, fighting and dying - to give freedom and democracy a chance to survive.

The men knew what they fought for,

they knew they would not prevail,

they stood and fought anyway.

Is freedom and democracy worth fighting and dying for?

What price shall we pay to stop the creeping chaos?

Iraq and Afganistan - the United States has lost and average of 2 soldiers a day. Plus, we keep the fight against the Islamofacist 'over there' and off of our streets.

But some the fight is on our streets - the 'flying Imams' and their lawsuit to silence the reporting of 'unusual behavior'. They are working to weaken our protections here at home.

We need the 300 today.

The French prove they are smart!

The election of Nicolas Sarkozy as president of La Belle France, with his affirmations of friendship for the United States, a firm stand against Islamism, and a rejection of the socialism that has pretty much turned France into an economic basket case, is proof that the majority of the French still have functioning brains and are still able to think for themselves.

I hope President Sarkozy can bring France back from the edge of self-destruction.

I hope he can reestablish law and order in ALL French neighborhoods. The 'Special Administrative Zones' set-up by former President Chirac, are a sign of defeat and surrender to chaos and mob rule.

I hope President Sarkozy can save Europe from the European Union and its looming oppression of Europeans.

Message to Speaker Pelosi

To: Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House
Harry Reid, U.S. Senate Democrat Leader

Congress has passed and President Bush has vetoed H.R. 1591, the Iraq Surrender Act of 2007.

This legislation, which you worked to pass, sets a timetable for surrender. It pulls the rug out from under our troops. That is shameful and wrong.

Your actions have already emboldened the enemy. Violent jihadists now know that the elected leadership of Congress would undermine the troops by holding their funding hostage to demands for surrender.

This Congress would bring us back to the dark days of the 1970s, when the world doubted our staying power. Except only much worse. Withdraw in April 2008, and on May 1, Iraq becomes an unchecked den of terrorism at the heart of the Middle East -- a new base for the same people that struck our homeland on September 11th.

I stand with our troops. I stand for victory. I support the President's veto and will urge my representatives to vote to sustain it.

There can be one and only one outcome in Iraq: We win, they lose.

Capital Fraud

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A California death row investigator pleaded guilty on Monday to falsifying evidence in a bid to help spare the life of four condemned inmates, including one who has led a major challenge to the legality of lethal injection.

Kathleen Culhane, 40, who worked in private practice and earlier as an investigator for a San Francisco center that represents indigent death row inmates, admitted to four counts of perjury, forgery and falsifying documents.

She is expected to get a sentence of five years in prison, Brown's office said.
***
5 years!!
Can we make her pay the state's cost in redoing all these cases?
Can we execute all those killers/rapists that walked free because of her criminal acts?

Audio from CAIR's meeting on 6 Imams

from Vigilant Freedom/910 Group Blog

It’s all about the numbers in the victimhood bullying game.

And Nihad Awad, executive director of CAIR, has problems getting the numbers he needs to prove that Muslims are subject to unusual discrimination. This could be a real embarrassment for Awad, because if Muslims are actually doing well in the U.S., maybe they don’t need CAIR.

1. First speech by Nihad Awad

There were 196 cases reported by the Justice Department for Muslims in civil rights cases. There were over 1008 cases reported by the Jewish faith. We need to do a much better job not only in recognizing our civil rights but also in reporting it to the government. Which is very critical and very important.

Hmmm, Jews being victimized 5 times for each Muslim victim... Yep. Jews have been victims for thousands of years.

…It is very important for Muslims to understand the law, and it’s also very important for Muslims to exercise their legal rights in the country. And it’s also important that if these rights are violated, that Muslims recognize that these rights are violated. Many Muslims, they are discriminated against or mistreated, they overlook or ignore or they are afraid to say or challenge or report these mistreatments. Which means, more of the same will take place against the same person or persons or against Muslims. And when people stand up and say something and challenge them, then there will be change.

True enough

But the psyche of Muslims have to change. The laws are there, fortunately, but the laws are not utilized. They’re not understood and they’re not followed by the victimizers or the victims. So there’s a lot of ignorance about the law, and that’s why Muslims usually find themselves being mistreated or discriminated against. Reporting to an organization like CAIR is important, because it is empowering.

Victimizers? Who are Victimizers? Are these the Muslims who attack others?

The Department of
Justice, in their annual report, don’t be surprised that if you feel
Muslims are not treated well in the country, that the number of reports
of incidents against Muslims or hate crimes is very low. Whereas the
number of incidents and hate crime cases against the Jewish community
is very very high. Maybe dozens of [incidents] against Muslims, but
against Jews are in the thousands. But when you examine the situation
you say, We really feel our community is more targeted. 54% - this is
one of CAIR’s surveys - 54% of all Muslims surveyed said they had been
subject to discrimination.

54% of who. Just exactly who did CAIR survey? There own membership - their leadership, just exactly who did they survey? And what questions were asked in this survey? How were the questions worded? Were they all leading questions? Did this include discrimination by Muslims against Muslims?

From the Questions  after his speeches:

“There
are two levels. Imams are going after those who caused this for them,
the particular incident. The imams also have the right to sue the media
if the media misrepresented them and that misrepresentation caused them
harm. So this is almost like first draft. There could be second and
third draft. There’s a statute of limitation for Defamation of one
year. So until November 20, 2007 they have the right to sue any party
who misrepresented them or defamed them.

But the laws of
defamation in the United States are much more difficult. The most
difficult laws. You can say almost whatever you want in this country.
Unlike Europe and Canada, where there are strict, tough defamation
laws. If you accuse someone, if you say something about some people,
you can be sued, you can go to jail or you can be fined. In the United
States, people use free speech, the First Amendment, to justify a lot
of what they say.
But there’s a limit.And I think there are many
lawyers who are looking into this. But the main focus on the imams now
is to have legal recourse against those who caused them [immediate]
harm, they were rejected, they were mistreated, they were [arrested]
and they were denied service.”

Sounds like he don't like the First Amendment.

Farewell: Sandmonkey

via Atlas

Here are some excerpts. On reform:

SANDMONKEY: "Any kind of democratic reform in the
country [Egypt] for the past 3 years has been rolled back specifically
because there is no more pressure coming from Washington anymore."

ATLAS: Why? What happened to the pressure in Washington?

SANDMONKEY: You know what happened to the pressure in
Washington. The Democrats won the Congress. There is no more pressure
coming from Bush because he is not able to push people anymore to do
those things. He is not able to push the Egyptian government
anymore because the American public is suddenly not interested in
reforming the Middle  East because of what's going on in the Iraq
. So suddenly the Egyptian government is not afraid of the American pressure. They are doing whatever they want to do. They
are beating up demonstrators, they are cracking down on activists, they
are changing the constitution, and eroding civil liberties once and for
all and they are using proxies to take down bloggers.
